What Is a Shrimp Boil?

A shrimp boil is a classic coastal dish popular throughout the Southern United States and Lowcountry regions. Shrimp, potatoes, corn, sausage, and seasonings are cooked together in a large pot and served family-style.

Traditionally enjoyed during warm-weather gatherings, shrimp boils are known for bringing people together around the table. This smaller version makes it easy to recreate the experience indoors while still delivering all the flavor and charm of the original.

1/4 cup Old Bay seasoning

2 tablespoons kosher salt

8 cups water

6 tablespoons butter, melted

1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning

Tips for the Best Shrimp Boil

Don't Overcook the Shrimp

Shrimp cook very quickly. Leaving them in the pot too long can make them rubbery.

Use Fresh Lemon

Fresh lemon adds brightness that balances the richness of the butter and sausage.

Choose Large Shrimp

Large shrimp hold up best during cooking and make the presentation more impressive.

Serve Family Style

Part of the charm of a shrimp boil is the presentation. Serve everything together on a large platter or spread across parchment paper for a true coastal entertaining experience.

What to Serve with a Shrimp Boil

This shrimp boil pairs beautifully with:

• Coastal Summer Charcuterie Board

• Blueberry Lemon Ginger Beer Cocktail

• Watermelon Feta Salad

• Cornbread

• Citrus Slaw

• Lemon Bars

For entertaining, I love serving this alongside a coastal-inspired charcuterie board and a refreshing summer cocktail for a complete dinner party menu.

America’s 250th Summer Tablescape

There’s something so special about gathering around the table during the summertime — especially when it’s filled with family, good food, nostalgic details, and the people you love most. This year feels even more meaningful as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, and I wanted to create a summer tablescape that felt timeless, nostalgic, and deeply rooted in classic Americana style.

Fourth of July entertaining setup with seasonal decor

America's 250th summer tablescape featuring patriotic decor, red white and blue accents, seasonal entertaining details, and elegant holiday hosting inspiration

For this year’s All American Summer series, I created an Americana-inspired hosting setup complete with a dessert and drink bar, layered flag-inspired details, cozy summer textures, and some of my favorite entertaining pieces from Williams Sonoma. I wanted the entire setup to feel elevated but still welcoming — the kind of table that invites everyone to slow down, stay awhile, and celebrate summer together.

From vintage-inspired American flags and layered linens to summer desserts, chilled drinks, and soft textured details, every part of this setup was inspired by nostalgic summers, backyard gatherings, and those timeless all-American moments that never go out of style.

If you’ve been following along with this series, you know how much I love creating spaces and recipes that feel both cozy and beautiful. This tablescape was designed to tie together everything from the series — the recipes, the hosting inspiration, the grilling nights, and the feeling of a classic American summer.

The Inspiration Behind This Americana Summer Tablescape

When designing this table, I wanted it to feel:

  • nostalgic yet elevated

  • timeless instead of trendy

  • warm and welcoming

  • layered and collected

  • inspired by classic American summers

I leaned heavily into:

  • vintage Americana colors

  • layered striped linens

  • soft textured fabrics

  • classic white serving pieces

  • woven details and relaxed summer textures

  • heirloom-inspired styling

The dessert and drink bar behind the table became one of my favorite parts of the setup. Styled with patriotic desserts, chilled summer drinks, layered serving pieces, and Americana-inspired decor, it helped create that full summer hosting atmosphere I always picture when I think of July evenings and backyard celebrations.

What I Used for This Summer Hosting Setup

For this tablescape, I used a mix of:

  • layered linens and textured fabrics

  • vintage-inspired American flags

  • classic white serving ware

  • woven chargers and summer textures

  • soft Americana-inspired details

  • hosting pieces from Williams Sonoma

I also wore my favorite Americana-inspired outfit paired with an all-American apron to fully lean into the nostalgic summer hosting feel of this series.

If you’re looking to recreate this style for your own summer hosting, I linked many of the entertaining pieces, serving items, linens, grilling favorites, and Americana-inspired finds throughout my American Summer Hosting, Summer Grilling Essentials, and All American Mama collections.

The Menu for Our All American Summer Celebration

One of my favorite parts of creating this series has been building a full nostalgic summer menu around these hosting moments.

For this tablescape, I styled and served recipes from the series including:

  • Bacon Wrapped California Hot Dog Recipe

  • Easy Slow Cooker Baked Beans with Bacon

  • Brown Butter Herb Corn on the Cob

  • Mini Cherry Cobblers for Summer Parties & 4th of July

  • 4th of July Fruit Pizza Recipe

Having everything tied together made the entire evening feel cohesive, cozy, and incredibly nostalgic.

Tips for Creating an Elevated Americana Tablescape

If you want your summer hosting setup to feel elevated while still relaxed and approachable, here are a few things that always help me:

Layer Textures

Mix linens, woven pieces, ceramics, and soft fabrics to create a table that feels collected, cozy, and inviting.

Stick to a Soft Americana Color Palette

Instead of overly bright decor, lean into softer reds, creamy whites, faded blues, and natural textures for a more timeless look.

Use Layers Throughout the Table

Layered placemats, napkins, serving pieces, and textiles help the table feel full, thoughtful, and visually interesting.

Create a Separate Drink or Dessert Station

Adding a styled dessert and drink bar instantly makes gatherings feel more intentional and helps guests serve themselves comfortably.

Mix Functional Pieces with Decorative Details

I love combining serving pieces we actually use with decorative touches that make the table feel special and memorable.

Pearls, Shells & Chardonnay

There’s something about a slow summer evening on the California coast that feels instantly romantic — salty air drifting through open windows, chilled wine poured into beautiful glasses, soft coastal textures layered throughout the space, and a charcuterie spread filled with simple seasonal favorites meant to be shared slowly. For this hosting setup, I wanted to create a coastal-inspired wine and charcuterie station that felt elegant yet relaxed, inspired by everything I love most about summer on the Central Coast.

This coastal wine hour was styled with creamy shell tones, layered pearls, silver and soft gold accents, textured linens, and one of my favorite summer wines from JUSTIN Winery. The entire setup was inspired by warm coastal nights, timeless hosting details, and that effortless California wine country feeling that somehow always makes people linger a little longer around the charcuterie board.

From chilled chardonnay and gathered cheeses to woven textures, collected shells, and soft neutral details, every part of this setup was designed to feel elevated while still approachable — the kind of hosting that feels beautiful without trying too hard.

Shop the Coastal Summer Look

Everything I used to create this Pearls, Shells & Chardonnay evening—from the serving pieces and wine glasses to my dress and favorite hosting details—is linked below to make recreating this coastal summer gathering simple.

The Inspiration Behind This Coastal Wine & Charcuterie Station

For this setup, I wanted the overall feeling to feel:

  • coastal but refined

  • layered and collected

  • elegant without feeling formal

  • soft, warm, and inviting

  • inspired by California wine country and seaside summers

I leaned heavily into:

  • creamy pearl-inspired tones

  • collected shell details

  • layered neutral linens

  • silver and soft gold accents

  • woven coastal textures

  • chilled summer wines

  • relaxed charcuterie styling

  • soft all-white florals throughout the setup

Instead of a full tablescape, I styled this more as a gathered wine and appetizer station — something guests could naturally walk up to, snack from, refill their glasses, and linger around throughout the evening.

The Coastal Details That Made This Setup Feel Special

One of my favorite details from this setup ended up being the shell-shaped wine glass toppers I found on Amazon. They rested directly on top of the wine glasses and held small appetizers, making it easier for guests to walk around while holding both their wine and a bite to eat at the same time. It felt playful, elevated, and perfectly coastal all at once.

I also loved incorporating soft all-white florals throughout the station to blend naturally into the coastal color palette and add another layer of texture without overwhelming the setup. The flowers helped everything feel fresh, airy, and romantic while tying together the creamy shell tones and pearl-inspired details.

To add dimension and make the station feel abundant and welcoming, I layered both a shell-shaped wine bucket and a classic silver wine bucket throughout the setup, displaying chilled bottles of wine where guests could easily help themselves throughout the evening. Mixing the metallics, shells, linens, florals, and wine displays helped create that relaxed but elevated summer hosting atmosphere I was envisioning.

Together, those details created a hosting setup that felt elegant while still relaxed enough for a casual summer wine night.

What We Served

For this coastal wine hour, the menu stayed intentionally simple and shareable:

  • a seasonal charcuterie board

  • chilled chardonnay

  • fresh fruit

  • artisan crackers and bread

  • marinated olives

  • light summer appetizers and small bites

Keeping everything easy and approachable helped the atmosphere feel relaxed and conversational rather than overly formal.

The Outfit Details

To tie into the coastal summer feeling of the evening, I wore the sweetest shell-detailed dress from Nordstrom by English Factory that fit the theme perfectly. The shell details paired beautifully with the pearls, coastal textures, and soft neutral tones throughout the setup and helped bring the entire aesthetic together in such a fun, summery way.

Tips for Creating an Elevated Coastal Hosting Setup

Layer Neutral Textures

Mix linens, woven textures, ceramics, pearls, and metallic accents to create depth without overwhelming the space.

Keep the Color Palette Soft

Creams, soft whites, sandy neutrals, muted metallics, and natural coastal tones help everything feel timeless and calming.

Create Easy Grab-and-Go Appetizers

Small bites and easy-to-carry appetizers make gatherings feel relaxed and effortless.

Let the Food Feel Organic

Charcuterie boards look most beautiful when they feel abundant and casually arranged rather than overly structured.

Add Small Statement Details

Little touches like shell wine toppers, layered pearls, collected shells, and wine displays instantly make the setup feel thoughtful and memorable.
